I arrived to Paris this morning safe and sound and hurried along so as to make it to my luggage terminal in time because the plan included meeting up with Claude in this very busy airport. I knew he was to arrive 15 minutes before me. Through emails we committed to ONE spot to meet and I desperately wanted to be there.
As I looked for my bag I could sense his presence and sure enough, there behind a glass wall I recognized his shoulders, arms and legs, and without a doubt, I ran to the window and rapped on it to get his attention and as the body behind the glass lowered to see who was making the noise, my brother's cheerful face appeared. I no longer cared if I looked like a mad woman, I just talked (ok---raised my voice)over the wall and I could barely wait to get my bag. What can I say, I haven't seen this brother in a long time and we've been talking about this day for months!
We took the metro to our quarters and we are in the heart (the right atrium if you please) of Paris. We found the address and just when we figured one of us would have to search for a phone to tell the landlords we were here, a young woman stepped out of the building. Claudine offered us her phone and within a few minutes we were inside our new abode. Claudine asked us to leave her our info and that it would be nice to meet up. Claude and I were very happy with this proposition and we agreed to slip a piece of paper in her mailbox with our app#.
The elevator is ancient and perfectly odd. It looks like a small ornamental cage big enough for one which takes you up to the 6th floor and from there you must hike up the last circular flight of stairs to reach the rooms.
Our new landlord Lilian was delighted to see us as we are her first official tenants. She was very proud to announce that all of the furnishings and renovations have not been enjoyed by anyone else before as every thing is brand new and could we please let her know what we think.
Claude and I could barely concentrate on the new stove top with the Eiffel tower peeking out proudly amongst the vast collection of ancient roofs spreading out before our eyes from our living room window. Claude was mouthing the words to me, 'Look over there...it's the tower...we are HERE' and all I could do was nod in agreement.
Our landlord then surprised us with an invitation to lunch with them. We showered and made our way down to their appartment. There we were introduced to a glass of wine, appys, a salad, some salmon, fresh fruit, some cheese with crusty bread, and of coarse, some coffee and chocolate to finish the whole affair.
We very much enjoyed our fist few hours in Paris as we feel we received the best welcome of all. With bellies full and a strong temptation to nap, Claude and I decided to go for a walk and take in our new surrounding, which is easier said then done. There is so much to see, so many landmarks to oogle and google at, that before you know it, you've somehow made it across town.
We have decided to eat in and to retire early as we both have not slept at all yet.
Armed bags full of groceries for dinner and breakfast, we wound our way up St-Anthony's street (Oui Mom on pense a toi) to our very nice little abode above the city.
We like to look out at the Eiffel tower as it seems impossible still to believe we are here.
Claude is being very good and has gone to bed.
What can I say, it's 8:35pm and soon I will do the same but for now, I am thoroughly loving accessing the internet IN my PJ's from our kitchen table! What a treat.
Here are a few pictures for you to look at
